Wards Of Turku
The city of Turku, in Finland, is divided into nine wards ( in Finnish, in Swedish), which are further divided into 78 districts (''see Districts of Turku''). The ward division does not always follow district boundaries. The wards are identified by numbers from one to nine, as well as by a semi-official name. Turku Wards
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). The region was originally called Suomi (Finland), which later became the name for the whole country. As of 31 March 2021, the population of Turku was 194,244 making it the sixth largest city in Finland after Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa and Oulu. There were 281,108 inhabitants living in the Turku Central Locality, ranking it as the third largest urban area in Finland after the Capital Region area and Tampere Central Locality. Uittamo-Skanssi (Finnish; ''Uittamo-Skansen'' in Swedish) is a ward (, ) of Turku, Finland, also known as Ward 3. The ward is located to the southeast of the city and named after Uittamo and Skanssi, two major districts in the ward. Uittamo-Skanssi has a population of 24,026 () and an annual population increase of 0.10%. 15.01% of the ward's population are under 15 years old, while 20.26% are over 65. The ward's linguistic makeup is 90.87% Finnish, 6.36% Swedish, and 2.77% other. Districts The ward consists of 12 districts. One district is divided between Uittamo-Skanssi and another ward. Maaria-Paattinen (Finnish; ''S:t Marie-Patis'' in Swedish) is a ward (, ) of Turku, Finland, also known as Ward 9. The ward includes almost half of the city's land area, and is its most sparsely populated district. It is located to the north of the city, and named after Maaria and Paattinen, the two former municipalities from which it was formed after both of them were annexed into Turku. Maaria-Paattinen is the second smallest ward of Turku by population, with only 8,756 inhabitants (). The ward is located to the west of the city and named after the major route that passes through the ward in the direction of Naantali. The ward also includes the island of Ruissalo. Kuninkoja is a ward ( in Finnish, in Swedish) of Turku, Finland, also known as Ward 7. The ward is located to the northwest of the city centre and named after the historical area of the city that it occupies. There is also a district called Kuninkoja in the neighbouring municipality of Raisio. The ward is located to the east of the city and named after Itäharju and Varissuo, two major districts in the ward. Itäharju-Varissuo has a population of 27,883 () and an annual population decrease of 1.26%. 17.75% of the ward's population are under 15 years old, while 13.21% are over 65.
