It can also refer to a chief or head official, as in the Warden of the Mint. Warden, Free State
Warden is a town situated in the Free State province of South Africa on the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban. The town is 56 km north of Harrismith and south-south-east of Villiers. It was laid out on the farm Rietvlei in 1912, proclaimed in 1913, and attained municipal status in 1920. Warden Pear
The black Worcester pear (also known as Parkinson's Warden and the Worcester Black Pear) is a cultivar of the European pear (''Pyrus communis''), it may have come to the UK via the Romans, but also has been used in heraldry and around the city of Worcester. The dark fruit is mainly used for cooking or culinary uses. History It is thought it may have come to the UK by the Romans and was first mentioned at the Cistercian built Abbey of Warden in Bedfordshire in the 13th century. It may also be linked to the French pear ‘de Livre’. 'Black Worcester' was recorded as being grown by monks at the Abbey as early as 1388. As a long keeping fruit, it formed an important part of the winter diet until root-crops were introduced. Wardon Abbey
Wardon or Warden Abbey, Bedfordshire, was one of the senior Cistercian houses of England, founded about 1135 from Rievaulx Abbey. It is a Grade I listed building. History The patron was Walter Espec, who had founded the mother house and settled the new community on one of his inherited estates, on unprofitable wasteland, as its early name, St Mary de Sartis, implied, just the kind of remote, uninhabited sites specified by the founders of the Cistercian order. Warden is a station on the Bloor–Danforth line in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the southeast corner of St. Clair Avenue East and Warden Avenue. The station is located perpendicular to St. Clair Avenue, and is the only Line 2 station with a north–south alignment. The main pedestrian street entrance is on the east side of Warden, with another entrance from St. Clair along a walkway on the west side of the elevated tracks. Vehicle entry to the passenger pick up and drop off entrance is on the south side of St. Clair, east of Warden, exiting on to Warden south of St. Clair. Warden Chilcott
Lieutenant-Commander Sir Harry Warden Stanley Chilcott, (11 March 1871 – 8 March 1942), also known as Warden Chilcott, was Conservative MP for Liverpool Walton. During the First World War, he served with the Royal Naval Air Service in France. A flamboyant self-made businessman and sportsman, he was elected with the backing of the Coalition government in 1918, was returned unopposed in 1922 and 1923, was elected again in 1924, and stood down in 1929. He was knighted in 1922.
