Waratah League
The NBL1 East, formerly the Waratah League, is a semi-professional basketball league in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2021, Basketball New South Wales and the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) announced a partnership to bring NBL1 to New South Wales in 2022, with NBL1 replacing the Waratah League. As a result, the Waratah League became the east conference of NBL1. The Waratah League was previously a member of the Australian Basketball Association (ABA) from 2001 to 2008. Newcastle Falcons is a NBL1 East club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 East. The club is a division of Newcastle Basketball, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Falcons play their home games at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. Club history In 1983, Newcastle Basketball began fielding a men's team in the South Eastern Basketball League (SEBL). The Newcastle Hunters were SEBL champions in 1986 and runners-up in 1987. The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Sydney's Northern Beaches. They compete in Australia's premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL). The club debuted in the 1947 New South Wales Rugby Football League season and currently host the majority of their home games from Brookvale Oval in Brookvale, while training at the New South Wales Academy of Sport in Narrabeen and their Centre of Excellence in Brookvale. Maitland is an English and Scottish surname. It arrived in Britain after the Norman conquest of 1066. There are two theories about its source. It is either a nickname reference to "bad temper/disposition" (Old French, ''Maltalent''; Anglo Norman French, ''mautalent/Mautalen''; Latin ''malum talentum''), or it may be a locational reference to Mautalant, a place in Pontorson, France.
