War Pass
War Pass (April 17, 2005 – December 24, 2010) was an American champion Thoroughbred racehorse and winner of the 2007 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Owned by Robert V. LaPenta and bred by Cherry Valley Farm, he was out of the mare Vue, a daughter of the influential Champion sire Mr. Prospector. He was sired by the 1994 Breeders' Cup Sprint winner, Cherokee Run, a descendant of the very important sire Nearco. Race career - 2007 season- Trained by Nick Zito, War Pass both broke his maiden and won a first level allowance race at Saratoga Race Course in August and September. On October 3, 2007, he won the G1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, which as a part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge earned him an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. On October 27, 2007, War Pass was the post time favorite and won the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile by 4¾ lengths over a sloppy track at Monmouth Park. Cherokee Run (March 15, 1990 – July 2, 2016) was an American thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Background He was bred by George Onett of Stone Gate Farm. Founder of Ocala Breeder Sales Company and first chairman of the board. sired by 1982 Canadian Hall of Fame inductee Runaway Groom, who in turn was a son of leading sire Blushing Groom. Saratoga Race Course is a Thoroughbred horse racing track located on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York, United States. Opened in 1863, it is often considered to be the oldest major sporting venue of any kind in the country, but is actually the fourth oldest racetrack in the US (after 3rd oldest Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack, 2nd oldest Fair Grounds Race Course, and oldest Freehold Raceway). Smoke Glacken (foaled 1994 in Maryland, died April 21, 2016) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Sired by Two Punch, a son of the important sire Mr. Prospector, his dam was Majesty's Crown, a daughter of Irish stakes winner Magesterial, who was a son of Northern Dancer. Trained by Henry Carroll, at age two, Smoke Glacken finished second in his racing debut, then won four straight, including the Tyro Stakes and the Grade II Sapling Stakes, both at Monmouth Park Racetrack. Tale of Ekati (foaled March 31, 2005) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse. Background The brown colt's sire is Tale of the Cat by leading sire Storm Cat. The Wood Memorial Stakes is an American flat Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held annually in April at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, Queens, New York. It is run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on dirt. The Wood Memorial has been run as a Grade II event since 2017. It was a Grade I race from 1974 (when grading was first introduced) to 1994 and again from 2002 to 2016. The Wood Memorial is one of the major prep races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. The Tampa Bay Derby is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for three years old horses over the distance of miles on the dirt scheduled annually in March at Tampa Bay Downs racetrack in Oldsmar, Florida.
