War Crimes During The Sudanese Civil War (2023–present)
The Sudanese civil war (2023–present), civil war in Sudan, which started on 15 April 2023, has seen widespread war crimes committed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with the RSF being singled out by the Human Rights Watch, and the United Kingdom and United States governments for committing ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. Tawila or Tawilah () is a town in North Darfur, North Darfur State, Sudan. History In 2004, the town was destroyed during the War in Darfur. The town has been victimised by militiamen. The United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur, United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur was active in the area. Mustafa Tambour (; born 24 July 1982) is the leader of an Sudan Liberation Movement faction known as SLM-Tambour, which is involved in the conflict in Darfur, supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Before the 2023 Sudan conflict, he launched a community reconciliation initiative to stop the war in Darfur. Khamis Abdullah Abakar (; 30 March 1964 – 14 June 2023) also known as Abdallah Abakar was a Sudanese politician, activist and former army commander who served as the Governor of West Darfur from 2021 until his assassination. Misterei Massacre
Between May 27 and 28, 2023, armed Arab gunmen affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces attacked the West Darfur town of Misterei during the Battle of Geneina, killing 97 Masalit civilians after brief clashes with the Sudanese Alliance and Masalit self-defense groups, and destroying the town. Prelude Throughout the war in Darfur, the town of Misterei has been a hub of violence between Arab tribes affiliated with the Janjaweed and Rapid Support Forces against non-Arab tribes, predominantly the Masalit, who live in Misterei.
