Wanneroo City SC
Wanneroo City Soccer Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in Madeley in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The club currently competes in the Football West State League Division 2. History The Wanneroo Soccer Club was formed in 1975 by parents from the Wanneroo Junior Soccer Club, and their home ground was on Scenic Drive in Wanneroo. They competed in the 2nd Division of the Amateur Soccer Association of WA, and stayed in the amateur ranks until the 1979 season, at which point they joined the 4th Division of the State League. They won the premiership and championship at the first attempt, and were promoted to the 3rd Division for the 1980 season. In 1982 their home ground moved to the Wanneroo Showgrounds. In 1983 they were runners-up and champions, gaining promotion to the 2nd division for the following year, assisted by their player/coach, ex-Southampton star John Sydenham. John Sydenham
John Sydenham (born 15 September 1939) is an English former footballer who played as a striker, spending most of his career with Southampton. Early career Born in Southampton, John was educated at St. Mary's College, Southampton and, at 13, he became their first pupil to play for the Southampton Schools XI. By playing his part in the side that reached the final of the 1954 English Schools trophy, only to lose out to Liverpool, he came to the notice of Saints. In August 1955 he joined CPC Sports which doubled as a Saints' nursery side. In due course John became part of the successful 1956–57 Southampton Youth side which did so well in the FA Youth Cup. Saints lost out 7–5 to Manchester United on aggregate but Sydenham's lasting memory of the cup adventure was of Manchester United manager Matt Busby going into the Old Trafford dressing room and congratulating them on their performance. Landsdale is a northern suburb of Perth, Western Australia located within the local government area of the City of Wanneroo. The Olympic Kingsway Sports Club, often referenced as Kingsway Olympic, is an association football (soccer) club from Perth, Western Australia. The club was founded in 1953 by Greek immigrants from Macedonia. They moved to their current location at the Kingsway Sporting Complex in Madeley in 1973.
