Wander AG
Wander AG (officially: "WANDER AG") is a food producer that is owned by Associated British Foods and is based in Neuenegg (Canton of Bern, Switzerland). The company employs about 300 people in Switzerland. Its most well-known product is Ovomaltine and Isostar. History In 1865 Georg Wander opened a "chemical-technical and analytical" laboratory in the old town of Bern. His son Albert Wander, took over the company in 1897. In 1904, the production of the malt beverage Ovomaltine was started. The first sales depots opened in Italy and England only two years later. In 1908 the sole proprietorship was converted into a stock corporation. In 1913, the first Ovomaltine production facility outside of Switzerland was built in Kings Langley (Great Britain). In 1927 the Swiss production site was moved from Bern to Neuenegg. Ovaltine (also known by its original name Ovomaltine) is a brand of milk flavoring product made with malt extract (except in the blue packaging in the United States), sugar (except in Switzerland), and whey. Some flavors also have cocoa. Ovaltine, a registered trademark of Associated British Foods, is made by Wander AG, a subsidiary of Twinings, which acquired the brand from Novartis in 2002, except in the United States, where Nestlé acquired the rights separately from Novartis in the late 2000s. Isostar is a sports drink sold in Europe. It is similar to Gatorade and Powerade in that it hydrates and provides energy through glucose. Isostar was first created in Switzerland in 1977. Products Isostar is sold in many different varieties. The basic drink variety is generally sold in local shops and gymnasium vending machines. Also sold are "Power Tabs", a tablet form of the drink. Kings Langley
Kings Langley is a village, former manor and civil parish in Hertfordshire, England, north-west of Westminster in the historic centre of London and to the south of the Chiltern Hills. It now forms part of the London commuter belt. The village is divided between two local government districts by the River Gade with the larger western portion in the Borough of Dacorum and smaller part, to the east of the river, in Three Rivers District. It was the location of Kings Langley Palace and the associated King's Langley Priory, of which few traces survive. It is situated south of Hemel Hempstead and north of Watford. Georg Wander
Georg Wander (11 August 1841 – 14 March 1897) was a German-Swiss chemist and industrialist. Biography Georg Wander studied chemistry in Gießen, Tübingen and Würzburg. In 1859 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Gießen. In 1861 he joined the Corps Rhenania Tübingen. After receiving his doctorate, he was an assistant at the Institute of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Bern from 1863 to 1865. He worked for 320 francs a month whilst studying at Bern. For comparison, a professor during that time would typically earn about 2,800 to even 3,200 francs per month. His colleagues in other facilities were almost getting doubled of what he was getting paid. In 1865 he became a partner in a mineral water factory (Sommer & Comp) in Bern, which he took over in 1867 and expanded into a chemical-technical and analytical laboratory.
