''Waltz for Koop'' is the second studio album by the Swedish electronic music duo Koop. It was their first album to hit a U.S. ''Billboard'' chart, peaking at number seventeen on Top Electronic Albums. The compositions were recorded and mixed by Mats "Limpan" Lindfors. Two years after its release, a remix album was issued with the title ''Waltz for Koop: Alternative Takes''. Koop (band)
Koop was an electronic jazz duo from Sweden, consisting of Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson. Their music consists of mostly vocal jazz created by putting together thousands of different song samples and has been described as a blend between 1960s jazz, swing and Caribbean music. Koop ended their collaboration in 2008, with Simonsson continuing to compose and tour under the name Koop Oscar Orchestra. History Zingmark and Simonsson met while attending university in Uppsala and formed the band in 1995, before moving to Stockholm. According to Simonsson, his passion for the genre came about by growing up in a house where jazz was frequently played, with his father playing jazz drums in his youth. The name Koop is a shortened version of a Swedish word meaning "cooperation". Yukimi Nagano
Yukimi Eleanora Nagano (born 31 January 1982) is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She is the vocalist for the Swedish electronic group Little Dragon. Career Early career Nagano first made a record at the age of 18 with Andreas Saag (Swell Session). She then worked with Swedish nu jazz duo Koop on the songs "Summer Sun" and "Bright Nights" (both from 2001's ''Waltz for Koop'') and joined the duo on tour, which she says "opened a lot of doors for me both life and collaboration wise". Mattias Ståhl (born 11 December 1971 in Oskarshamn, Oskarshamn, Sweden) is a Swedish jazz vVibraphone, ibraphonist (also marimba, glockenspiel, clarinet, harmonica, synthesizer, percussion) and composer. Biography Ståhl plays with Eirik Hegdal's Team Hegdal, Cecilia Persson, and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra among others. He was involved in 33 jazz recording sessions between 1999 and 2012, including with Lennart Åberg, Bengt Berger, Fredrik Nordström, Lina Nyberg, Alberto Pinton and Per Tjernberg among others. Magnus Lindgren
Magnus Lindgren (born 13 August 1974 in Västerås, Sweden) is a Swedish jazz musician. He studied at the Västerås Music College. He then attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, and began working with the Soul Enterprise. He began playing with Herbie Hancock aged 18, and formed his quartet in 1997. He has also worked with James Ingram, Koop, Barbara Hendricks, Gregory Porter, Till Brönner, Nicola Conte, Marie Fredriksson, Ivan Lins and David Foster. In 2001, Lindgren was voted the best Swedish jazz artist of the year by the Fasching jazz club in Stockholm. He has received a number of awards, including a Grammis award in 2001, and the Arne Domnérus Prize. Dan Berglund
Dan Berglund (born 5 May 1963) is a Swedish musician who mainly plays the upright bass and is known within jazz and fusion. Biography Berglund was familiar with Swedish folk music as well as with pop and rock music. At the age of ten he started playing rock guitar, but later changed to bass guitar. As part of his musical training at the ''Birka Folkhögskola'' in Östersund he came to pick up the upright bass and played in the regional symphony orchestra, with whom he also had guest performances and first television appearances. In 1990 he moved to Stockholm to study at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan. There he played in the group '' Jazz Furniture '' and in the quintet of Lina Nyberg, where he met Esbjörn Svensson.
