Walther OSP
The Walther OSP is manufactured by Walther, it is a pistol chambered in the .22 Short caliber. The OSP was designed for the Olympic 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol event and became the perennial winner of the event. The pistol features a Morini grip, which places the bore at a lower level to reduce recoil. The barrel is weighted and ported, and felt recoil is virtually none. It comes with either a or trigger. The pistol was effectively rendered obsolete by 2005 ISSF rule changes to the 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol which standardised the rules to that of the 25 m Standard Pistol, which precludes the use of the .22 Short cartridge, wrap-around grips and very light trigger pulls (weight required to pull/activate trigger). Instead of only offering the ''standard pistols'' most companies designed new specialized ''rapid pistols'' although both could be used in either competition. 25 M Rapid Fire Pistol
25 meter rapid fire pistol is one of the ISSF shooting events and is shot with .22 LR pistols. The event has been a part of the Olympic program ever since the beginning in 1896, although its rules changed greatly before World War II, after which they were only slightly changed until the two major revisions of 1989 and 2005. The latter restricted the event to sport pistols, thereby banning .22 Short cartridge (last used in 2004 and replaced by .22 Long Rifle in 2005) as well as encircling grips and low trigger-pull weight. .22 Short is a variety of .22 caliber (5.6 mm) rimfire ammunition. Developed in 1857 for the first Smith & Wesson revolver, the .22 rimfire was the first American metallic cartridge. The original loading was a bullet and of black powder. The original .22 rimfire cartridge was renamed .22 Short with the introduction of the .22 Long in 1871. Morini Competition Arm S.A. is a Swiss manufacturer of target pistols aimed at ISSF shooting events as governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF, formerly UIT) and competed in at the Olympics. The company was formed in 1973 in Italy as a maker of anatomical grips for target pistols and still supply these grips to many other companies in addition to producing competition arms themselves. During the following years, complying with laws and regulations governing guns become more and more complicated in Italy, and in 1985 the company decided to move to Lamone, Canton Ticino, the Italian speaking region of Switzerland. The Walther SSP is a precision target shooting pistol made in Germany by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen. The SSP was created in response to ISSF rule changes to the 25 m Rapid Fire Pistol in 2005 which effectively rendered the Walther OSP obsolete. The new rules precluded use of the .22 Short cartridge as well as wrap-around grips and light trigger pulls (pressure required to pull/activate trigger). Although the new pistol rules for the rapid fire event were now identical to those for 25 m Standard Pistol, to allow competitors to compete in both competitions using the same pistol, manufacturers like Walther still designed new pistols like the SSP to perform optimally in the rapid fire events.
