Walter Shaw (British Politician)
Walter William Shaw (1868 – 10 May 1927) was a British Conservative Party politician. He was elected at the 1924 general election as Member of Parliament (MP) for Westbury in Wiltshire, having unsuccessfully fought the seat in 1923. He had previously contested Houghton-le-Spring Houghton-le-Spring ( ) is a town in the City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, North East England which has its recorded origins in Norman times. Historically in County Durham, it is now administered as part of the Tyne and Wear county. It is s ... at the 1922 general election. However, he did not complete a full Parliament, dying in office in May 1927, aged 58. He is buried in Brookwood Cemetery. Brookwood Cemetery
Brookwood Cemetery, also known as the London Necropolis, is a burial ground in Brookwood, Surrey, England. It is the largest cemetery in the United Kingdom and one of the largest in Europe. The cemetery is listed a Grade I site in the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. History Background Brookwood Cemetery was conceived by the London Necropolis Company (LNC) in 1849 to house London's deceased, at a time when the capital was finding it difficult to accommodate its increasing population, of living and dead. The cemetery is said to have been landscaped by architect William Tite, but this is disputed. In 1854, Brookwood was the largest cemetery in the world but it is no longer. Richard Eric Onslow Long, 3rd Viscount Long, (22 August 1892 – 12 January 1967) was a British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician and Territorial Army (United Kingdom), Territorial Army officer.
