Walter Roberts (diplomat)
Sir Walter Roberts (14 December 1893 – 18 November 1978) was a British diplomat. He was the only son of Judge Roberts, a Judge of the Clerkenwell County Court. Career Walter St Clair Howland Roberts was educated at Winchester College and Brasenose College, Oxford. He was admitted to the Middle Temple on 4 April 1914, withdrawing without being Called to the Bar on 13 January 1927. During the First World War he was a prisoner of war 1914–16, then served with the Royal Field Artillery 1917–19. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1918; the citation read: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his battery was under heavy shell fire, his utter contempt for danger was an inspiring example to all ranks, and it was largely due to his coolness that all guns were saved. Walter Orr Roberts
Walter Orr Roberts (August 20, 1915 – March 12, 1990) was an American astronomer and atmospheric physicist, as well as an educator, philanthropist, and builder. He founded the National Center for Atmospheric Research and took a personal research interest for many years in the study of influences of the Sun on weather and climate. Early life and education Walter Orr Roberts was born on August 20, 1915, in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, to Ernest Marion Roberts and Alice Elliot Orr. He was the oldest of three children. He attained a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Amherst College in 1938, and a Masters and PhD in astronomy from Harvard University in 1940 and 1943. Walter R. Roberts (August 26, 1916 – June 29, 2014) was an American writer, lecturer, and former government official. Life and career Walter R Roberts was born in Austria, and was educated at the University of Vienna and Cambridge University (M. Litt., Ph.D.). He was a research assistant at The Harvard Law School (1940–1942) and joined the US Government (Coordinator of Information) in 1942. After eight years of service with the Voice of America, he was transferred to the Austrian Desk of the Department of State (1950). In 1953, he was appointed Deputy Area Director for Europe in the newly created U.S. Information Agency (USIA). In 1955, he was a member of the American Delegation to the Austrian Treaty Talks that culminated in a State Treaty, signed in Vienna by the four occupying powers (U.S. Great Britain, France and the Soviet Union) on May 15, 1955.
