Walter Pichler (artist)
Walter Pichler (1 October 1936, Deutschnofen, Italy - 16 July 2012 Burgenland, Austria) was an Austrian sculptor, artist, architect and designer. Early life and education Walter Pichler's family was forced to leave Deutschnofen for Austria as part of the South Tyrol Option Agreement. He began his artistic studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Innsbruck. In 1955 he graduated from the Vienna University of Applied Art. Career From the 1960s onward Pichler's work spanned areas between sculpture and architecture. In 1960 he stayed in Paris for a period of time and in 1963 to New York and Mexico. In 1963 he had his first exhibition, ''Architecture'', along with Hans Hollein at Galerie nächst St. Stephan in St Stephen Vienna. Pichler created objects and installations that dealt with architectural designs for utopian city models and projects that dealt with space and perception. Deutschnofen
Deutschnofen (; it, Nova Ponente ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about southeast of the city of Bolzano. Deutschnofen borders the following municipalities: Aldein, Bolzano, Bronzolo, Karneid, Laives, Welschnofen, and municipalities of Predazzo, Tesero and Varena in Trentino. It includes the villages of Rauth (''Novale'') and Obereggen, a small tourist village located on the foot of the Latemar, with some 900 inhabitants. Grand Austrian State Prize
The Grand Austrian State Prize () is a decoration given annually by Austria to an artist for exceptional work. The recipient must be an Austrian citizen with a permanent residence in Austria. It was originally created in 1950 by then education minister Felix Hurdes. The prize is given according to the recommendation by the Austrian Art Senate without a set rotation schedule for literature, music, visual art, or architecture. Since 2003 it has been endowed with a 30,000 euro prize.
