Walter Obodzinsky
Walter Obodzinsky, also known as Volodya Obodzinsky (5 July 1919 – 6 March 2004), was a Polish-born member of the Wehrmacht. He gained notoriety when the Canadian government sought to revoke his citizenship in 1999, on the basis that Obodzinsky had concealed his past Nazi activities. Life Obodzinsky was born July 5, 1919, in Turzec, Poland. Between 1941 and 1944, Obodzinsky collaborated with Nazi occupiers in Belarus, serving as a member of the auxiliary police, Wehrmacht and Jagdzug. Obodzinsky joined an auxiliary police unit under the command of Heinrich Himmler in 1941. The unit later participated in the massacre of 1300-1500 Jews in the ghetto of Mir, Belarus. From March to July 1944, Obodzinsky was a member of the Wehrmacht. He deserted the Wehrmacht in July 1944 while stationed in France. Helmut Oberlander
Helmut Oberlander (15 February 1924 – 20 September 2021) was a naturalized Canadian citizen who was a member of the ''Einsatzgruppen'' death squads of Nazi Germany in the occupied Soviet Union during World War II. Oberlander was on the Simon Wiesenthal Center's list of most wanted Nazi war criminals. Beginning in 1994, the Government of Canada made several attempts to revoke Oberlander's citizenship on the basis of his misrepresenting his involvement with Nazi war crimes. In 2017, after the fourth attempt by the government to strip him of his citizenship, he lost his appeal, as the Federal Court of Canada found this revocation "reasonable", and in 2019 the Federal Court of Appeal unanimously dismissed his motion to have his case re-opened. On 5 December 2019, the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear Oberlander's appeal, clearing the way for his deportation. Polish Auxiliary Police
The Blue Police ( pl, Granatowa policja, Navy-blue police), was the police during the Second World War in German-occupied Second Polish Republic, Poland (the General Government). The entity's official German name was ''Polnische Polizei im Generalgouvernement'' (Polish Police of the General Government; pl, Policja Polska Generalnego Gubernatorstwa). The Blue Police officially came into being on 30 October 1939 when Germany drafted Poland's prewar state police officers (''Policja Państwowa''), organizing local units with German leadership. Imre Finta
Imre Finta (2 September 1912 – 1 December 2003) was the first person prosecuted under Canada's war crimes legislation. He was charged in 1987 and acquitted in 1990. Early life Finta was born in Kolozsvár (modern-day Cluj-Napoca, Romania). He studied law at a university in Szeged in the 1930s. In 1935 he enrolled at the Royal Hungarian Military Academy. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Hungarian Gendarmerie on January 1, 1939, and was promoted to the rank of captain on April 5, 1942. Imre Finta was a commander of the Gendarmerie in Szeged, Hungary, during the Second World War. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Toronto in 1953, where he bought a restaurant. Vladimir Katriuk
Volodymyr Katriuk (1 October 1921 – 22 May 2015) was a Ukrainian-Canadian soldier and beekeeper, who was accused by the Simon Wiesenthal Center of having been an active participant in the Khatyn massacre during World War II. In the annual Nazi War Criminal Report for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, Katriuk was ranked number three under the list of most-wanted Nazi war criminals as determined by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Katriuk denied any involvement in war crimes. Early life Katriuk was born in the village of Luzhany, near the city of Chernivtsi, on 1 October 1921. Denaturalization is the loss of citizenship against the will of the person concerned. Denaturalization is often applied to ethnic minorities and political dissidents. Denaturalization can be a penalty for actions considered criminal by the state, often only for errors in the naturalization process such as fraud.
