Walter Mignolo
Walter D. Mignolo (born May 1, 1941) is an Argentine semiotician (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences) and professor at Duke University, who has published extensively on semiotics and literary theory, and worked on different aspects of the modern and colonial world, exploring concepts such as global coloniality, the geopolitics of knowledge, transmodernity, border thinking, and pluriversality. He is one of the founders of the modernity/coloniality critical school of thought. Work Mignolo received his BA in Philosophy from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina in 1969. In 1974 he obtained his Ph.D. from the École des Hautes Études, Paris. He subsequently taught at the Universities of Toulouse, Indiana, and Michigan. Since January 1993, Walter D. Corral De Bustos
Corral de Bustos is a town in Argentina located in the district of Marcos Juárez, in the south east of the Province of Córdoba. History The town of Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger was founded in the early Twentieth Century, when the German Carlos Von Ifflinger requested permission from the Government of the Province of Cordoba to establish a town that would carry on his surname. The government granted the permit on 14 November 1901 and this is now regarded as the founding date of the city, which originally only covered what is now Barrio Ifflinger. In July 1902, a train service was inaugurated. The station was given the name Corral de Bustos, referring to an ancient Indian site located south of Chañar Ladeado. At that time, a railway official bought a field, now south of the tracks, where the railway company opened streets and began selling land. Decoloniality
Decoloniality ( es, decolonialidad) is a school of thought used principally by an emerging Latin American movement which focuses on untangling the production of knowledge from a primarily Eurocentric episteme. It critiques the perceived universality of Western knowledge and the superiority of Western culture. Decolonial perspectives see this hegemony as the basis of Western imperialism. Context The decolonial movement includes diverse forms of critical theory, articulated by pluriversal forms of liberatory thinking that arise out of distinct situations. In its academic forms, it analyzes class distinctions, ethnic studies, gender studies, and area studies. Arturo Escobar (anthropologist)
Arturo Escobar (born November 20, 1952) is a Colombian-American anthropologist and the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. His academic research interests include political ecology, anthropology of development, social movements, anti-globalization movements, political ontology, and postdevelopment theory. Education and career Escobar was born in Manizales, Colombia. He currently holds Colombian and American citizenship and publishes in both English and Spanish. Rey Chow
Rey Chow (born 1957) is a cultural critic, specializing in 20th-century Chinese fiction and film and postcolonial theory. Educated in Hong Kong and the United States, she has taught at several major American universities, including Brown University. Chow is currently Anne Firor Scott Professor of Literature in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. Chow's writing challenges assumptions in many different scholarly conversations including those about literature, film, visual media, sexuality and gender, ethnicity, and cross-cultural politics.
