Walter Maule
Walter Maule (died 1348) was the son and heir of Sir Henry Maule, Baron of Panmure and Benvie, and Margaret, daughter of Sir William Hay of Locherworth. He was warden of Kildrummy Castle in the reign of David II. The name of Walter's spouse is unknown, but he left two sons, William and Henry. William was named successor to the baronies of Panmure and Benvie on his father's death in 1348. Henry succeeded as Baron on his father's death and was married to Margaret Hay, daughter of Sir William Hay of Locherworth. Kildrummy Castle
Kildrummy Castle is a ruined castle near Kildrummy, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Though ruined, it is one of the most extensive castles dating from the 13th century to survive in eastern Scotland, and was the seat of the Earls of Mar. It is owned today by Historic Environment Scotland and is open to the public as a scheduled ancient monument with gardens that are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland. History The castle was probably built in the mid-13th century under Gilbert de Moravia. It has been posited that siting of Kildrummy Castle was influenced by the location of the Grampian Mounth trackway crossings, particularly the Elsick Mounth and Cryne Corse Mounth. David II Of Scotland
David II (5 March 1324 – 22 February 1371) was King of Scots from 1329 until his death in 1371. Upon the death of his father, Robert the Bruce, David succeeded to the throne at the age of five, and was crowned at Scone in November 1331, becoming the first Scottish monarch to be anointed at their coronation. During his childhood Scotland was governed by a series of guardians, and Edward III of England sought to take advantage of David's minority by supporting an invasion of Scotland by Edward Balliol, beginning the Second War of Scottish Independence.
