Sir Walter Llewellyn Lewis (13 November 1849 – 26 September 1930) was an advocate, magistrate of Trinidad and Chief Justice of British Honduras. Biography Lewis was born in Banbury, but his mother and father settled in County Galway in early 1852. Educated at Queens College Galway, he received a B.A. in 1869 and took his M.A. in 1871. He received a gold medal and first class honours in his degree. Lewis entered as a student of the Middle Temple in 1872; he acquired his knowledge of the law in the chambers of Robert Wallace, Herbert Reed and Robert McCall. He frequently "devilled" for McCall who was also a graduate of QCG. He married Jane Mary Dealy in 1887. In his leisure time Lewis enjoyed voyaging to various parts of the world—he was an expert navigator. In 1876 he began to practice on the Northern Circuit but this was not to his liking and he switched to the South Wales and Chester Circuit. Wally Lewis
Walter James Lewis AM (born 1 December 1959) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and coached in the 1980s and 1990s. He became a commentator for television coverage of the sport. A highly decorated Australian national captain, Lewis is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever players of rugby league. His time as a player and coach was followed by a career as a sports presenter for the Nine Network. Nicknamed The King and also The Emperor of Lang Park, Lewis represented Queensland in thirty-one State of Origin games from 1980 to 1991, and was captain for thirty of them. He also represented Australia in thirty-three international matches from 1981 to 1991 and was national team captain from 1984 to 1989. Walter Lewis (trade Unionist)
Walter Lewis (died 12 February 1926) was a Welsh trade union leader and politician. Born in Tredegar, Lewis began working at a coal mine when he was just nine years old. Ten years later, he was working at the Holly Bush Colliery, when a dispute arose over wages, and he was chosen as one of the workers' representatives in the resulting negotiations. He later moved to work at the Coedymoeth Colliery in Brithdir, winning election as checkweighman, and he became involved in the Rhymney Valley Miners' Association. During the Welsh coal strike of 1898, Lewis was delegated to raise donations from northern England. He proved successful in the role, and when the South Wales Miners' Federation was established, later in the year, he served as the first president of its Rhymney Valley District, then as assistant to its general secretary, William O'Shea. Walter E. "Furry" Lewis (March 6, 1893 or 1899 – September 14, 1981) was an American country blues guitarist and songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee. He was one of the first of the blues musicians active in the 1920s to be brought out of retirement and given new opportunities to record during the folk blues revival of the 1960s. Life and career Lewis was born in Greenwood, Mississippi. His birth year is uncertain. Many sources give 1893, the date he gave in his later years, but the researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc suggest 1899, based on his 1900 census entry, and other sources suggest 1895 or 1898. His family moved to Memphis when he was seven. He acquired the nickname "Furry" from childhood playmates. By 1908, he was playing solo at parties, in taverns, and on the street. He was also invited to play several dates with W. C. Handy's Orchestra.
