Walter Kamper
Walter Kamper (6 October 1931 – 26 September 2015) was an Austrian pianist. Life Born in Vienna, Kamper studied at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts with Richard Hauser and at the Berlin State University of Music and Performing Arts with Helmut Roloff. He made his debut as a concert pianist in 1951 in Vienna. From 1963 until his retirement in 2000, he taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. With Michael Schnitzler and Walther Schulz, he founded the Haydn Trio Wien in 1964. The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (german: link=no, Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, abbreviated MDW) is an Austrian university located in Vienna, established in 1817. Geneva International Music Competition
The Geneva International Music Competition () is one of the world's leading international music competitions, founded in 1939. In 1957, it was one of the founding members of the World Federation of International Music Competition (WFIMC), whose headquarters are in Geneva. Today, the Geneva Competition alternates between several main disciplines: piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, cello, viola, string quartet, voice and percussion. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, ''Akademos''. Outside the city walls of Athens, the gymnasium was made famous by Plato as a center of learning.
