Walter J. Croswell
Walter John Croswell (March 31, 1900 – April 10, 1991) was an American farmer and politician. Croswell was born in Luverne, Rock County, Minnesota. He went to the Mankato Public Schools and to the Iowa State University School of Agriculture. He lived in Lake Crystal, Blue Earth County, Minnesota with his wife and family and was a farmer. Croswell served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1949 to 1954. Luverne () is a city in Rock County, Minnesota, United States, along the Rock River. The population was 4,946 at the 2020 census. It is one of four towns profiled in the 2007 Ken Burns documentary '' The War''. It is the main setting for the second season of the TV show '' Fargo''. History A post office called Luverne has been in operation since 1868. Luverne was platted in 1870, and named for Luverne Hawes, the daughter of a settler. Rock County is a County (United States), county at the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 9,704. Its county seat is Luverne, Minnesota, Luverne. History The county was formed on May 23, 1857, by act of the territorial legislature, but was not organized at that time. The area was designated ''Pipestone County'', and the name ''Rock County'' was attached to the present Pipestone County, Minnesota, Pipestone. In 1862 the Minnesota state legislature changed the designations, attaching the present names to the present counties. On March 5, 1870, the state legislature approved an act that finalized the county's organization and designated Luverne as the county seat. Lake Crystal is a city in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, United States, established in 1869. The population was 2,539 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Mankato- North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. History First arrivals In 1853, two families from small towns near Ithaca, New York, left their homes and traveled west. One was 32-year-old William Riley Robinson. In June 1854 Robinson and his companion Lucius O. Hunt traveled from Wisconsin to Blue Earth County. Robinson and Hunt arrived and came upon the three nearby lakes, Loon, Crystal, and Lily, and marveled at their beauty. Blue Earth County is a county in the State of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 69,112. Its county seat is Mankato. The county is named for the Blue Earth River and for the deposits of blue-green clay once evident along the banks of the Blue Earth River. Blue Earth County is part of the Mankato-North Mankato metropolitan area. History The area of Blue Earth County was once occupied by the Dakota Indians. French explorer Pierre-Charles Le Sueur was an early explorer in this area, arriving where the Minnesota and Blue Earth rivers meet.
