Walter Ingram
Walter Charles Ingram (23 January 1891 – 24 July 1952) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Ingram was born at Blackall, Queensland, the son of George William Ingram and Catherine Kelly Ingram. He was educated at Glenmore State School and by 1908 was employed as a road worker and shearer in Yeppoon. In 1910 he was employed as a railway construction worker based at Mount Chalmers and Many Peaks. From 1920 to 1923 he was a wharf labourer in Gladstone, then moved to Mount Morgan to work the mines until 1925. From 1925 until 1928 he was a farmer in Stanwell Stanwell is a village close to two of the three main towns in the Borough of Spelthorne, Surrey, about west of central London. Stanwell, Queensland
Stanwell is a rural town and locality in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Stanwell had a population of 337 people. Geography Stanwell is located on the Capricorn Highway and the Central Western railway line. Neerkol Creek flows past the town. History Early settlers in the Stanwell area were involved in dairying, quarrying or working for the railways. Stanwell State School opened on 7 November 1873. A postal receiving office opened in about 1874; a post office opened on 1 October 1880. A Primitive Methodist Church opened in Stanwell on Saturday 13 August 1881 by the Reverend R. Hartley. Although the land was provided by the Methodists, other denominations contributed to the construction of the church as part of an arrangement whereby the other denominations could also use the church for their services. Mount Morgan Shire Council
The Shire of Mount Morgan was a local government area located in the Capricornia region of Central Queensland, Queensland, Australia, about south of the regional city of Rockhampton. The shire, roughly the region surrounding the former gold mining town of Mount Morgan, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1890 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other councils to become the Rockhampton Region. 1944 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 15 April 1944 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first that Labor had contested under Premier Frank Cooper, who had been in office for 19 months by the time of the poll. From this election, the voting method was changed from contingency voting to First past the post voting. Queensland retained this method for state elections until Preferential Voting was restored by the Country/Liberal Coalition at the 1963 state election. The election resulted in Labor receiving a fifth term in office, albeit with a reduced majority. The Rockhampton Region is a local government area (LGA) in Central Queensland, Australia, located on the Tropic of Capricorn about north of Brisbane. North Rockhampton Cemetery
The North Rockhampton Cemetery is a cemetery in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, which was established in 1879. It is situated approximately 11 hectares of land beside the Bruce Highway at the junction of Yaamba Road and Moores Creek Road in Norman Gardens. It currently contains over 25,100 graves. History North Rockhampton Cemetery was established in 1879. According to council records, the first burial at the cemetery was that of a young girl called Elizabeth Rogers who was buried on 1 March 1879. The cemetery was officially consecrated on 15 September 1879 by Mathew Hale (bishop), Bishop Mathew Hale. This occurred eleven days after the cemetery's second burial when a woman named Annie Cusack was buried on 4 September 1879. St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rockhampton
St Andrew's Presbyterian Church is a heritage-listed former Presbyterian church at 280 Bolsover Street, in the central business district of Rockhampton, Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. The former church was designed by Voller & Graham in the Gothic Revival style and built from 1893 to 1926. The former church was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. In October 2002 the former church was closed on the basis of concerns around the structural integrity of the building. The congregation relocated to the site of the former Rockhampton cinema building, and became known as the Rockhampton Presbyterian Church. The former church building was sold and has since been renovated as The Church Events Venue. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020. History The first issue of ''The Bulletin'' was launched on 9 July 1861. It is the second oldest business in Rockhampton, the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. The founder and original owner, William Hitchcock Buzacott (1831–1880, brother of Charles Hardie Buzacott), brought the press and equipment from Sydney in 1861 where he operated a small weekly paper. At the time the paper was called the Rockhampton Bulletin and was eagerly read by the town's 698 residents.
