Walter Hunt (architect)
Walter Hunt (1870 – 3 May 1940) was an architect in Australia. A number of his works are now heritage-listed. Early life Walter Hunt was born in Kiama, New South Wales in 1870, the youngest son of George Hunt. He trained as an architect in New South Wales. In 1896 and 1897, he was an alderman in the Kiama Municipal Council and was involved in establishing the town's water supply. Architectural career From 1902 he was a Fellow of the Institute of Architects New South Wales and from 1912 a Fellow of the Queensland Institute of Architects. Kiama () is a coastal town 120 kilometres south of Sydney in the Illawarra. One of the main tourist attractions is the Kiama Blowhole. The Dalgety Offices is a heritage-listed office building at 1–13 Sturt Street, Townsville CBD, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Walter Hunt and built from 1923 to 1925 by William Hornby Turner. It is also known as Sunskill House. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 26 August 2005. History The two-storeyed office section of this large reinforced concrete building was erected for Dalgety & Co. Ltd in 1923-24 and the single-storeyed warehouse, which fronts Denham Street, was constructed in 1924-25. The designer of both sections was prominent local architect Walter Hunt and the contractor was William Hornby Turner. Selhurst is a heritage-listed detached house at 24 Cleveland Terrace, North Ward, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1919. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 30 May 2003. History Selhurst, built in 1919 was probably designed by Townsville architect Walter Hunt. The house was commissioned by John Alexander Carpenter, Townsville manager for the Burns Philp Company, as his private residence. St Joseph's Church is a heritage-listed Roman Catholic church at Fryer Street, North Ward, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia.
