Walter Gordon Duncan
Sir Walter Gordon Duncan (10 March 1885 – 27 August 1963) was a politician in the State of South Australia. History Duncan was born in Watervale, South Australia, the second son of John Duncan, a wealthy and influential pastoralist and politician, and his wife Jean, née Grant. He was educated at St Peter's College, where he did not shine academically, but excelled at cricket. He was made Knight Bachelor in 1939. Politics He was elected to the South Australian Legislative Council for the Liberal Party by the Midland electorate in March 1918 and was re-elected in 1924, 1930, 1938, 1944, 1950 and 1956, finally retiring in 1962. He was elected President of the South Australian Legislative Council in 1944 and held the position until 1962. Other interests He was a longtime member of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society, and its president in 1924 and 1925. Jack Duncan-Hughes
John Grant "Jack" Duncan-Hughes (1 September 1882 – 13 August 1962) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Australian House of Representatives for Boothby from 1922 to 1928, of the Australian Senate for South Australia from 1932 to 1938, and of the House of Representatives for Wakefield from 1940 to 1943. He represented the Nationalist Party (1922–28) and its successor the United Australia Party (1932–38, 1940–43). Parkside is an inner southern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Unley. History The suburb was once home to the mental health campus of the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Known as 'The Parkside Asylum', it was the primary mental health facility in the state, and occupied approximately one-third of the suburb's area. Parkside Post Office opened on 10 December 1859 and was renamed Eastwood, South Australia, Eastwood in 1967. The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia was founded in November 1839 as the South Australian Agricultural Society with the aim of promoting primary industries in the Colony. The Society and its functions were patterned on similar organisations in England, and in its successive incarnations, the organisation has continued to pursue this aim (in the State) to the current day.
