Walter Evan Black Jr.
Walter Evan Black Jr. (July 7, 1926 – September 29, 2014) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Education and career Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Black received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Harvard University in 1947 and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1949. He was in private practice in Baltimore from 1949 to 1953. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney of the District of Maryland from 1953 to 1955, and was himself the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1956 to 1957. He then returned to private practice in Baltimore until 1982. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease (PD), or simply Parkinson's, is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms usually emerge slowly, and as the disease worsens, non-motor symptoms become more common. The most obvious early symptoms are tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Cognitive and behavioral problems may also occur with depression, anxiety, and apathy occurring in many people with PD. Parkinson's disease dementia becomes common in the advanced stages of the disease. Those with Parkinson's can also have problems with their sleep and sensory systems. The motor symptoms of the disease result from the death of cells in the substantia nigra, a region of the midbrain, leading to a dopamine deficit.
