Walter Clark (Canadian Politician)
Walter Ernest Clark (July 17, 1890 – March 26, 1987) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1955 to 1958 as a Liberal-Progressive. He was 54 years old at the time of his election, and was a farmer and former municipal official in Baldur.''Winnipeg Free Press'', 28 June 1955, pp. 1-4. The son of John and Hanna Clark, he farmed and lived in the Rosehill district near Baldur, moving to the town in 1945 but continued to farm until the 1970s. In 1912, Clark married Teresa Caroline Porter. He was reeve of the Rural Municipality of Argyle for 18 years. Clark was elected to the Manitoba legislature in a by-election called in the Mountain constituency after the resignation of high-profile cabinet minister Ivan Schultz. Walter Eli Clark
Walter Eli Clark (January 7, 1869 – February 4, 1950) was an American journalist and newspaper publisher. In addition to his journalistic activities, he was the last Governor of the District of Alaska from 1909 to 1912, and the first Governor of Alaska Territory from 1912 to 1913. Background Clark was born on January 7, 1869, to Oren Andrus and Jeannette (Jones) Clark in Ashford, Connecticut. He was educated in public school and in 1887 graduated from the Connecticut State Normal School (now Central Connecticut State University). Clark taught at a school in Waterville, Connecticut, before becoming Principal of Manchester, Connecticut's grade school. In 1891 he enrolled at Williston Seminary. Walter McKenzie Clark (August 19, 1846 – May 19, 1924) was a North Carolina politician and attorney who served as an associate justice (1889–1903) and chief justice (1903–1924) of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Biography Clark was born in Halifax County, North Carolina to General David Clark and Anna M. Thorne. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Philanthropic Society. Walter Van Tilburg Clark (August 3, 1909 – November 10, 1971) was an American novelist, short story writer, and educator. He ranks as one of Nevada's most distinguished literary figures of the 20th century, and was the first inductee into the 'Nevada Writers Hall of Fame' in 1988, together with Robert Laxalt, Clark's mentee and Nevada's other heralded twentieth century author. Two of Clark's novels, ''The Ox-Bow Incident'' and ''The Track of the Cat,'' were made into films. Walter Ernest Clark (June 9, 1873 - May 1, 1955) was president of the University of Nevada 1918–1938. Clark was born in Defiance, Ohio to Lemen Talor and Marth (Robinson) Clark, and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1896. From 1893 to 1897 he was a sergeant in the signal corps of Company K, Fourth Ohio National Guard. And from 1896 to 1899 Clark was instructor in mathematics at Ohio Wesleyan. In 1903 Clark was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University. From 1901 to 1907 he was instructor in economics and politics at the College of the City of New York. Walter Leighton Clark (1859–1935) was an American businessman, inventor, and artist based in Stockbridge, Massachusetts and New York City. Biography Among other achievements, in 1923 he founded with John Singer Sargent the Grand Central Art Galleries, located within New York City's Grand Central Terminal, to offer notable American artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in the United States without having to send it abroad. Together with sculptor Daniel Chester French and Dr. Austen Fox Riggs, Clark also played a central role in the founding of the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Walter Eugene Clark (September 8, 1881 – September 30, 1960), was an American philologist. He was the second Wales Professor of Sanskrit at Harvard University and editor of the volumes 38-44 of the Harvard Oriental Series. He translated the Aryabhatiya of Aryabhata with critical notes which was published in 1930, by the University of Chicago Press. Education Clark was born on September 8, 1881 in Digby, Nova Scotia and came to the United States in 1883. Clark received his A.B. in 1903, A.M. in 1904 from Harvard. Walter Appleton Clark (June 24, 1876 – December 26, 1906) was an artist and illustrator. Clark was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, four years before the death of his father. His mother then made a living for her family by taking in boarders. As a child, Clark drew sketches for his own amusement, and at 15, he spent a profitable summer in Jackson, New Hampshire, taking drawing lessons from a local artist. After finishing high school, Clark studied at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for two years before enlisting at the Massachusetts Nautical Training School to become an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine. In 1894, Clark resigned as a cadet in good standing and enrolled at the Art Students League of New York, where he studied under William Merritt Chase and Harry Siddons Mowbray.
