Walter Bielser
Walter Bielser (20 May 1929 – 10 August 2004) was a Swiss footballer who played mainly as a forward, but also as a midfielder. Football career Bielser played his youth football for FC Pratteln and then moved on to FC Aesch. As senior he played for Biel-Bienne and Lausanne-Sport before he moved to Basel for the first time. After two seasons he again played for Biel-Bienne before returning to Basel. Between 1952 and 1957 Bielser played 106 games for Basel and scored of 32 goals; 66 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 8 in the Swiss Cup and 32 were friendly games. He scored 19 goals in the domestic league, 3 in the Cup and the other 10 during the test games. The biggest success in his football career was as Basel won the championship title in the 1952–53 season. During this season Bielser played 21 league games and scored 9 goals for the club. Walter Bannwart
Walter Bannwart (3 March 1927) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played mainly as a forward, but also as a midfielder. Football career Between 1949 and 1957 Bannwart played 263 games for Basel and scored 64 goals; 171 games were in the Nationalliga A, 20 in the Swiss Cup and 72 were friendly games. He scored 44 goals in the domestic league, 6 in the Cup and the other 14 were scored in the friendliames. His first game in the domestic league was on 20 November 1949 in a home game in the Stadion Schützenmatte against FC Bern. He scored twice as Basel won 3–1. Josef Hügi
Josef Hügi (23 January 1930 – 16 April 1995) was a Swiss international footballer who played as a striker during the late 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. Career Hügi was born in the town of Riehen on 23 January 1930 and played football from an early age but did not start to take the sport all that seriously until he went to the University of Basel in the late 1940s. His first professional club was FC Basel, whom he signed for in 1948. He would spend the next fourteen years of his life playing for the ''RotBlau'', playing 320 league matches and scoring 224 goals. In 1962, he signed for FC Zürich but he played just two games there and went on to spend the rest of his career in the lower divisions with FC Porrentruy and FC Laufen. He became a coach at FC Basel after his retirement from playing. He was capped 34 times for the Swiss national team between 1951 and 1960, scoring 22 goals. René Bader
René Bader (7 August 1922 – 1995) was a Swiss football forward and Trainer. Career Bader played for FC Basel between 1946 and 1953. In 1947 Basel won the Swiss Cup as they beat Lausanne 3–0 in the final at the Stadion Neufeld in Bern. Paul Stöcklin scored two goals and Bader the other. Between 1952 and 1955 and again during the season 1958–59 Bader was trainer of the Basel team. Basel won their first league title in 1953, with club legend Bader as player-manager. Basel ended the season three points ahead of BSC Young Boys. 1952–53 FC Basel Season
The 1952–53 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 59th season in their existence. It was their seventh consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's chairman for the seventh successive season. Overview At the beginning of the season René Bader took over the job as club trainer from Ernst Hufschmid who had acted as trainer the previous five years. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them.
