Walter B. Brown
Walter Brown (May 16, 1920 – March 9, 1998) was a South Carolina politician and businessman. Biography A Democrat, he was born in Smallwood, Fairfield County, South Carolina, May 16, 1920 as the son of Boyd and Mary (Tidwell) Brown. He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives; a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from South Carolina, 1960, 1964, 1968; the first director of South Carolina Department of General Services (now Budget and Control Board); the vice-president for government affairs of Norfolk Southern Corporation (formerly Southern Railway); the first Trustee Emeritus at the Medical University of South Carolina. Fairfield County, South Carolina
Fairfield County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 20,948. Its county seat is Winnsboro. Fairfield County is part of the Columbia, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. History 18th century It is alleged that the county name originated from a statement made by General Cornwallis when he declared "How Fair These Fields" during the British occupation of the area in 1780–81. The house Cornwallis stayed in during the occupation is still standing. Several years before the Revolution, Richard Winn from Virginia moved to what is now called Fairfield County. His lands covered the present site of Winnsboro, and as early as 1777 the settlement was known as "Winnsborough". The 1964 Democratic National Convention of the Democratic Party, took place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey from August 24 to 27, 1964. President Lyndon B. The 1968 Democratic National Convention was held August 26–29 at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Earlier that year incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson had announced he would not seek reelection, thus making the purpose of the convention to select a new presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. The keynote speaker was Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. Vice President Hubert Humphrey and Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine were nominated for president and vice president, respectively. H. Boyd Brown (born October 27, 1986) is a former Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for District 41 from Fairfield County, South Carolina. Biography Brown graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2007, with a degree in political science. Brown comes from a family of politicians. He was a third generation member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and is the grandson of Walter B. Brown, a former legislator, lobbyist and railroad executive.
