Walt Dziedzic
Walt Dziedzic (November 29, 1932 – November 24, 2018) was an American politician who served on the Minneapolis city council from 1976 until his retirement in 2010. Prior to entering politics, Dziedzic spent 50 years as a police officer and inspector. He was also a Commissioner of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Biography Dziedzic grew up in the community of Northeast, Minneapolis and attended Edison High School, where he was an all-city athlete and earned nine letters in football, baseball, and hockey. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was present at Panmunjom when the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. He played professional baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers for three seasons before attending the College of St. Thomas. Minneapolis City Council
The Minneapolis City Council is the lawmaking body of Minneapolis. It consists of 13 members, elected from separate wards to four-year terms, via a ranked-choice method. The council structure has been in place since the 1950s. In recent elections, council membership has been dominated by the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL). As of 2022, 12 members identified with the DFL, while one identified with Democratic Socialists of America. Until the 2021 Minneapolis City Council election, the city's government structure was considered a Weak mayor, weak-mayor, strong-council system. However, a charter amendment was passed that gave the mayor more power and reduced the council to purely legislative duties. DeLaSalle High School
DeLaSalle High School is a Catholic, college preparatory high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is located on Nicollet Island. History DeLaSalle opened in 1900 and has been administered by the De La Salle Brothers (French Christian Brothers) throughout its history. The school's current president is Barry Lieske, AFSC. Lieske has been an administrator at DeLaSalle since 1982 and has served as principal (chief operations officer) from 1993 to 2012. Enrollment peaked at 1654 boys in 1964, dropped to the range of 400–500 by the early 1970s despite the 1971–72 advent of co-education, and continued to decline to a 70-year low of 306 in 1991. Over the past two decades DeLaSalle's enrollment has climbed, and the school now receives an average of 400 applications each year for ninth grade admission. North Memorial Health Hospital, sometimes referred to as North Memorial, is a 353-bed community hospital located in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. It is one of four Level I trauma centers in Minnesota. It is also a Level II trauma center for pediatrics. Foundation In 1939, Dr. Samuel Samuelson started Victory Hospital on property that he already owned in Robbinsdale. It was the only medical center outside of the downtown Minneapolis/St.Paul area. Previously, hospitals in the region had only been located in downtown areas in order to be close to physician's offices.
