Walsall–Wolverhampton Line
The Walsall–Wolverhampton line is a railway line in the West Midlands, England. It connects the town of Walsall to the city of Wolverhampton. The complete line does not currently have any regular scheduled passenger services: The line's local passenger service was withdrawn in 1965, it was restored in 1998, only to be withdrawn again in 2008. At present, the main use of the line is by freight trains, and it is also used as a diversionary route when engineering works are carried out on the West Coast Main Line. In 2017, the West Midlands Combined Authority announced that they would restore services to the line over the following decade, with new stations at Willenhall and James Bridge. Wolverhampton () is a city, metropolitan borough and administrative centre in the West Midlands, England. The population size has increased by 5.7%, from around 249,500 in 2011 to 263,700 in 2021. People from the city are called "Wulfrunians". Historically part of Staffordshire, the city grew initially as a market town specialising in the wool trade. In the Industrial Revolution, it became a major centre for coal mining, steel production, lock making, and the manufacture of cars and motorcycles. The economy of the city is still based on engineering, including a large aerospace industry, as well as the service sector. West Midlands Trains (WMT) is a train operating company in the United Kingdom. It operates passenger trains on the West Midlands franchise between London and the English Midlands under two trade names: West Midlands Railway (WMR) (within the West Midlands region) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) (outside the region). Willenhall Bilston Street Railway Station
Willenhall Bilston Street railway station was a station built on the Grand Junction Railway in 1837. It served the town of Willenhall, and was located just to the south of the town centre. It was one of two railway stations in the town - the other being Willenhall Stafford Street. The station is planned to reopen in 2023. Closure The station closed in 1965, and there is little evidence of the existence at the site. The lines through the station are in use today as part of the Walsall to Wolverhampton Line. Potential reopening There were proposals within the West Midlands Local Transport plan to reopen the station for passenger traffic, but these were shelved. Darlaston James Bridge Railway Station
Darlaston James Bridge railway station (also known as James's Bridge station) was a station built on the Grand Junction Railway in 1837, serving the James Bridge area in the east of the town centre of Darlaston, near the junction of Walsall Road and Bentley Mill Way. Darlaston Loop Line The station was also known simply as Darlaston, which can be confused with the LNWR station located in the town centre on the Darlaston Loop off the South Staffordshire Line. Trains from the station ran to the now disused Wednesbury Town railway station via the former Wood Green railway station. The station closed in the late 1800s to passengers and the line in the late 1960s to freight traffic and diverted services. A parliamentary train was a passenger service operated in the United Kingdom to comply with the Railway Regulation Act 1844 that required train companies to provide inexpensive and basic rail transport for less affluent passengers. The act required that at least one such service per day be run on every railway route in the UK.
