Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust
The Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is a public sector healthcare provider in Walsall, West Midlands, England. It originated as Walsall Hospital NHS Trust in December 1990, and was renamed in April 2011 after a merger by acquisition of the Walsall Community Health NHS Trust. It runs Walsall Manor Hospital and provides community services in Walsall. In December 2020 it agreed to appoint a joint chair with Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, anticipating plans to form a group model across the sustainability and transformation partnership. NHS Hospital Trust
A hospital trust, also known as an acute trust, is an NHS trust that provides secondary health services within the English National Health Service and, until they were abolished, in NHS Wales. Hospital trusts were commissioned to provide these services by NHS primary care trusts and now by clinical commissioning groups. NHS trusts were established by the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 as the first step in setting up an internal market. NHS foundation trusts were regulated by Monitor until 2016, when it was merged with the NHS Trust Development Authority to form NHS Improvement. The Employment Appeal Tribunal is a tribunal in England and Wales and Scotland, and is a superior court of record. Its primary role is to hear appeals from Employment Tribunals in England, Scotland and Wales. It also hears appeals from decisions of the Certification Officer and the Central Arbitration Committee and has original jurisdiction over certain industrial relations issues. Walsall Manor Hospital is an acute general hospital in Walsall, West Midlands managed by the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. History The hospital has its origins in an infirmary built for the Central Union Workhouse in 1896; the car park is on the site of Walsall Castle, a 12th/13th-15th century moated manor house. After becoming the Manor Hospital in 1928, it expanded through conversion for clinical use of an old nurses' block in the 1930s and of an old recreational hall in the 1960s. A new geriatric block was opened in 1973 and the West Wing was opened by Princess Diana in 1991. A redevelopment of the site was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract in 2007.
