Wally Watts
Walter Watts (17 June 1872 – 9 July 1946) was an Australian sportsman, best known as the oldest player to have played a senior game in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Adelaide ( ) is the capital city of South Australia, the state's largest city and the fifth-most populous city in Australia. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Ted Tyson
Edward Arthur Tyson (4 February 1910 – 5 February 1996) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the West Perth Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL). An inaugural member of the West Australian Football Hall of Fame, Tyson held the League record for career goals before being overtaken by Austin Robertson, Jr. His career achievements were somewhat overshadowed by the fact that he was a contemporary and often compared to legend George Doig. If Doig was known as the "Bradman of WA Football", Tyson was the equivalent of Wally Hammond. Tyson came from a leading Western Australian footballing family; his uncle Charlie Tyson played for Collingwood and North Melbourne Football Clubs in the Victorian Football League (VFL), while his grandfather, father and four other uncles also played football to a high standard. Laurie Bandy
Lawrence Henry Bandy (3 September 1911 – 18 July 1984) was an Australian cricketer who represented Western Australia in seven first-class matches between 1940 and 1948. Born in Perth, Bandy débuted for Western Australia Colts in 1935, scoring a duck against New South Wales. He made his first-class debut four-and-a-half years later, in February 1940, playing two matches against a touring South Australian side. For a time during the mid-1940s, Bandy was considered Western Australia's premier batsman. However, WA was not yet admitted into the Sheffield Shield competition, so Bandy was restricted to playing touring sides. Western Australia was admitted into the Shield for the 1947–48 season, albeit on a limited basis. Bandy played three matches in the first season, which included a score of 53 not out, his highest score and only first-class half-century. Bandy did not play any further first-class matches. The Western Australia Australian rules football team is the state representative side of Western Australia in the sport of Australian rules football. The Western Australian Cricket Association (known as the WACA) is the governing body for cricket in Western Australia. The WACA was formed on 5 November 1885. In 1893 the association opened the WACA Ground. Elite cricket The WACA is responsible for managing Western Australia's first-class cricket male team in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup and female team in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL). In the Big Bash League and Women's Big Bash League, the WACA is represented by the Perth Scorchers & Perth Scorchers (Women) respectively. Competitions The WACA is responsible for administering Western Australian Premier Cricket. The Association formerly hosted a popular annual cricket festival at Lilac Hill in Guildford between a Chairman's XI and the visiting International XI team. Midland-Guildford Cricket Club
Midland Guildford Cricket Club plays in the Western Australian Grade Cricket competition. Their home ground is Lilac Hill Park. History Midland Guildford Cricket Club started its association with the WACA in 1902/03 when it submitted a B-Grade team in the WACA Competition under the name Midland Junction and District Turf Cricket Club. In 1910/11 the club was admitted to the First Grade competition with a team also playing in B2-Grade. The home ground at the time was Midland Oval. In 1914/15 Midland Junction's area took in the Swan District region and changed its name to Midland-Swan Cricket Club. In 1918/19, arising from the post-war reconstruction of the club, and in deference to the many players from Guildford, the Club's name was again changed to the Midland Guildford Cricket Club.
