Wally Russell
Wally Russell (25 March 1923 – 4 March 1981) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond and Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Russell was a member of 1946 Richmond Reserves premiership team. Upon leaving Geelong, Russell was the St. Kilda Reserves Captain-Coach in 1950, playing 18 games, then went to BlackRock as Captain-Coach in 1951–52, then onto Carrum as Captain-Coach from 1953 to 1962, winning a premiership in 1959, winning the club Best & Fairest in 1958 and he also won a league Best & Fairest award too. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. The Black Rock Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Black Rock, Victoria, Black Rock. The Carrum-Patterson Lakes Football Club is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, that was founded in 1909 and currently plays in Division 3 of the Southern Football League. History Football has been reported to be played in Carrum since as early as 1902. Between 1902 and 1908 it has been well reported that a 'Carrum Football Club' played pre-season matches against the likes of Frankston Football Club and Mornington Football Club but never competed in an organised competition. Beechworth is a well-preserved historical town located in the north-east of Victoria, Australia, famous for its major growth during the gold rush days of the mid-1850s. The Ovens & King Football Netball League is a minor country Australian rules football league based in North-Eastern Victoria in the vicinity of Wangaratta and more recently Benalla. History The ''Ovens & King Football League'' was formed on the 13th of June 1903, after a handful of men met at The Bulls Head Hotel in Wangaratta to consider forming a football competition. One week later, the first matches of the Ovens & King Football Association were played. The competition changed its name to the Ovens and King Football League after the 1928 season. Ivan Russell
Ivan Russell (born 13 October 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). Russell, from Beechworth finished third in the 1968 Ovens & King Football League best and fairest award, the Clyde Baker Medal with 16 votes and was runner up in the 1969 Beechworth FC best and fairest. Russell was best on ground in Beechworth’s losing 1969 Ovens & King Football League grand final side before signing with Geelong. Russell later played 87 games with Geelong West Football Club, between 1975 and 1979, including their 1975 VFA Division One premiership.
