Wally Pesuit
Walter George "Wally" Pesuit (born March 4, 1954) is a former American football offensive and defensive lineman in the National Football League for the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions. He played college football at the University of Kentucky. Early years Pesuit attended Wintersville High School, where he was an All-state offensive tackle, a wrestling and weight-lifter champion in the Ohio Valley Conference. He also practiced the discus throw and the shot put. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Kentucky. He was named a starter at offensive guard as a sophomore. He was named the starter at left tackle as a junior. He was co-captain and the starting left tackle as a senior. Professional career Dallas Cowboys Pesuit was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 1976 NFL Draft, with the intention of playing him at the defensive line. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Larry Wayne Tearry (born April 24, 1956) is a former American football center who played two seasons with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). The 1979 NFL season was the 60th regular season of the National Football League. The season ended with Super Bowl XIV when the Pittsburgh Steelers repeated as champions by defeating the Los Angeles Rams 31–19 at the Rose Bowl. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. 1976 NFL Season
The 1976 NFL season was the 57th regular season of the National Football League. The league expanded to 28 teams with the addition of Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This fulfilled one of the conditions agreed to in 1966 for the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, which called for the league to expand to 28 teams by 1970 or soon thereafter. For this season only, the Seahawks played in the NFC West while the Buccaneers played in the AFC West. The Seahawks would return to the NFC West with the realignment prior to the 2002 season. The Buccaneers became the first NFL team to finish a season 0–14. The Buccaneers lost their first 26 games as they also lost their first 12 games in 1977. The season ended with Super Bowl XI when the Oakland Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings 32–14 at the Rose Bowl. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. 1976 NFL Draft
The 1976 National Football League draft was an annual player selection meeting held April 8–9, 1976, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The draft lasted 17 rounds, with the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks making the first two selections. The Buccaneers were awarded the first overall pick of the draft after winning a draw over the Seahawks, and used that pick to select defensive tackle Lee Roy Selmon. The expansion teams were also given a pair of extra picks at the end of each of rounds 2-5.
