Wallace H. Savage
Wallace Savage (November 21, 1912 – June 19, 2000), attorney, was mayor of Dallas in 1949–1951. Biography Savage was born in Houston, Harris, Texas to Homer Hamilton Savage and Mary Wallace. He married Dorothy Minnie Harris, daughter of William R. and Lillie E. Harris on September 17, 1940 in Dallas. They had two daughters: Virginia and Dorothy. He was in the first graduating class of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. In an oral history interview, Wallace Savage described his mother's influence on his college and career choice. She was from Virginia, attended school in Galveston and graduated from the University of Texas. She received a law degree and was a member of the Texas Bar and American Bar Associations. It was at her suggestion that he attended the University of Virginia and pursue a career in law. Jean Baptiste Adoue
Jean Baptiste Adoue, Jr. (November 4, 1884 – November 17, 1956) was the mayor of Dallas, Texas from 1951 to 1953. Early career He is born in Dallas County, Texas, as one of four children of Jean Baptiste Adoue, Sr. and Mittie Neosha "Simpson" Adoue. In 1906, he graduated in law from the University of Texas at Austin and returned to his home town to practice law for the following year before working with Adoue Sr. at the National Bank of Commerce (formerly known as Flippen, Adoue, and Lobit which changed when his father became president in 1892). He went on to marry Hester Ann Allen on October 12, 1909. They had two children. After his father's death by suicide in his home on June 24, 1924, Adoue succeeded him as president of the National Bank of Commerce. Virginia Savage McAlester
Virginia Savage McAlester (May 13, 1943 – April 9, 2020) was an American architectural historian. Research McAlester is best known for her book ''A Field Guide to American Houses''. She first published the book in 1984 with Lee McAlester, her second husband, and published an updated and revised version in 2013. The book proposes a detailed guide to architectural styles in housing across the United States. It uses both line drawings (of structures, façades and decorations) and photos and is credited with supporting preservation efforts in several American cities. ''A Field Guide to American Houses'' was listed as one of the ten most outstanding reference books of the American Library Association in 1984. Bruce Alger
Bruce Reynolds Alger (June 12, 1918 – April 13, 2015) was an American politician, real estate agent and developer, and a Republican U.S. representative from Texas, the first to have represented a Dallas district since Reconstruction. He served from 1955 until 1965. Though born in Dallas, Alger was reared in Webster Groves, Missouri, a small suburb of St. Louis. Early life Alger was the son of David Bruce Alger, a bank representative, and the former Clare Freeman, an aspiring poet and writer.
