Wallace Bishop (company)
Wallace Bishop is a specialty retailer of jewellery, watch, timepieces and decorative arts in Australia. The jeweller Wallace Bishop arrived in Queensland, Australia in 1909 having experience of jewellery and goldsmithing in England in the late 19th century. He was initially employed by jewellers in Queen Street, Brisbane, Queen Street in Brisbane, Queensland. Bishop established his own manufacturing business in 1917. In 1934, Wallace Bishop's son, Carl Bishop, designed the Wallace Bishop Loyal watch which continues to be marketed today and which gave rise to an advertising slogan – “The time by Wallace Bishop watch is …” Opening of its Wallace Bishop Arcade in King George Square coincided with the day World War II commenced in 1939, becoming a landmark business location in the city for 75 years. The Melbourne Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held in Melbourne, Australia. It is a 3200-metre race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is the richest "two-mile" handicap in the world and one of the richest turf races. King George Square
King George Square is a public square located between Adelaide Street and Ann Street (and between two sections of Albert Street) in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Brisbane City Hall is adjacent to the square. On 1 January 2004, King George Square was listed on the Brisbane Heritage Register. History Albert Square Originally, Albert Street ran west from the Botanic Gardens as far as Ann Street and the original city markets. Queen Street is the main street of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. It is named after Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
