Walkaway Railway Station
Walkaway is a small town in the City of Greater Geraldton local government area of Western Australia. At the , Walkaway had a population of 270. Its name is a corruption of the native "Wagga wah", referring to the bend in the nearby Greenough River, and was originally given to the railway station when a line was built from Geraldton in 1887. Geraldton is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. Geraldton was one of the original 30 seats contested at the 1890 colonial election. The district is based on the eponymous regional city. Labor held throughout most of the twentieth century, Geraldton has since become a seat that has changed hands regularly in the last two decades. Geography The district has always been based on the regional coastal city of Geraldton. Electoral reform ahead of the 2008 state election necessitated an increase in the district's enrolment and thus an expansion of its boundaries, as it did for all non-metropolitan districts. The Greenough River Solar Farm is a 10 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power station located in Walkaway, Western Australia. When it opened in October, 2012, it was the country's first utility-scale solar farm. Walkaway Wind Farm
Alinta wind farm (also known as Walkaway wind farm) is a wind power station at Walkaway, just south of Geraldton, Western Australia. It is owned by Infigen Energy and has offtake agreements with Alinta Energy and AGL Energy. The Alinta wind farm has an installed capacity of 89.1 megawatts. It supplies Perth and the south west in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). Each year the wind farm generates energy that would normally produce 360,150 tonnes of greenhouse gases if generated by fossil fuel based methods. This is the equivalent of removing 76,000 cars from the roads. Electricity produced by the wind farm is purchased mainly by Alinta Energy. Edward Vivian Harvey Keane (8 August 1844 – 9 July 1904) was an Australian engineer, businessman, and politician. Born in Birkenhead, England, he was educated at Christ's Hospital, and emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria, in 1876. Keane then moved to South Australia, where he worked as a railway engineer. He later moved to Western Australia, where he served in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. Early life Keane was born on 8 August 1844 in Birkenhead, Cheshire.
