Wakool is a town in the western Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. Wakool is in the Murray River Council local government area, south west of the state capital, Sydney and north-west of Melbourne. At the , Wakool had a population of 297. History Wakool Post Office opened on 1 January 1870 and closed in 1874. It reopened in 1926. Closer settlement of the Wakool area commenced in the 1890s and the town grew around a railway station established on the line between Echuca and Balranald. In 1942, rice growing was established in the area. Other industries include wool and cattle. Murray Downs Homestead
The Murray Downs Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at Moulamein Road, Murray Downs, Murray River Council, New South Wales, Australia. It was built by Seutorius Henry Officer and Charles Officer (between 1866 and 1884); and by Alfred Felton and Charles Campbell (between 1884 and 1891). The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 17 November 2000. The Golden Rivers Football Netball League (GRFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball organisation with clubs in north central Victoria and the western Riverina district of New South Wales. The League formed in 1919 and was known as the Kerang and District Football Association until 1944. In 1946 the league was reestablished as the Kerang and District Football League.
