Wako (retailer)
is a department store retailer in Japan, best known for its flagship store, commonly referred to as the Ginza Wako, located in the heart of Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district. The store is renowned for its watches, jewelry, chocolate, porcelain, dishware, handbags, and upscale imported goods. Wako Co., Ltd. was established in 1947 as the successor to the retail division of K. Hattori (known in Japan as Hattori Tokeiten, now Seiko) and began operations in a temporary location. In 1952, it commenced business in its current building. The Ginza Wako building was originally completed in 1932 as the headquarters of K. Hattori, situated at the corner of the Ginza 4-chome intersection. The Seiko headquarters was later relocated to Toranomon, and in 2016, it moved to Ginza 1-chome. Amos Wako (born 31 July 1945) is a former Attorney General of Kenya and the first senator for Busia County from 2013 to 2022. Wako won the senatorial seat after defeating former minister of finance Chris Okemo. He won the senator seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) being led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Gabriel Zubeir Wako (born 27 February 1941) is a Sudanese Catholic prelate who served as Archbishop of Khartoum from 1979 to 2016. He was created a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2003. Haruo Wakō
was a Japanese communist militant, member of the Japanese Red Army (JRA). Wakō attended Keio University, but dropped out in 1970. Later he worked for a time as an assistant for Kōji Wakamatsu's ''Wakamatsu Productions'', a producer of leftist movies. Attacks French Embassy attack Haruo Wakō and two other members of the JRA ( Junzo Okudaira and Jun Nishikawa) were directly involved in the seizure of the French Embassy in The Hague in 1974. The ambassador and ten other people were taken hostage. After lengthy negotiations, the hostages were freed in exchange for the release of the jailed JRA member Yatsuka Furuya, $300,000 and the use of a Boeing 707 aeroplane, which flew the hostage-takers to Syria.
