Waking Up The Town
''Waking Up the Town'' is a 1925 American silent comedy film directed by James Cruze and written by Frank Condon and James Cruze. The film stars Jack Pickford, Claire McDowell, Alec B. Francis, Norma Shearer, and Herbert Prior. The film was released on April 14, 1925, by United Artists. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a garage employee in a small town has an inventive mind, and tries to interest a banker in a project to harness waterfalls for energy. He becomes discouraged. Through the kind assistance of the garage owner, he puts his idea over, and wakes up the town. He has a romance with the granddaughter of his benefactor. James Cruze
James Cruze (born James Cruze Bosen; March 27, 1884 – August 3, 1942) was a silent film actor and film director. Early years Cruze's middle name came from the battle of Vera Cruz. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but did not practice the religion after his teenage years. Very little is certain about his childhood and teen years because he told a different story at every interview he granted. Career Cruze acted in, directed and or produced over 100 films mainly during the silent film era. His first known acting job was at Lubin Manufacturing Company in 1910. He started at Thanhouser Company in 1911 with ''She'' (1911) which is where the majority of his body of work was produced, much of it as the leading man. After leaving Thanhouser in 1916, he worked for several other companies as director and producer, primarily for Paramount Pictures, from 1918 to 1938. George Dromgold
George C. Dromgold (July 14, 1893 – April 9, 1948) was an actor and writer, who wrote a book about his South Seas exploration. Early years George Dromgold was the son of R. W. Dromgold, a Los Angeles businessman, real estate investor, and member of the Los Angeles City Council, and Nellie Squire Dromgold. George Dromgold worked as a salesman, lived for a time in Honolulu, and entered movies in 1914. He received his first screenplay credit in 1927. Later career In 1933, Dromgold and James B. Shackelford traveled to the Great Barrier Reef and Papua, spending three months at Fiji. At Suva, they observed and analyzed fire-walking.
