Waki-gamae
, sometimes shortened to ''waki'', is one of the five stances in kendo: ''jōdan'', ''chūdan'', ''gedan'', '' hassō'' and ''waki'', as well as other related and older martial arts involving Japanese sword. ''Waki-gamae'' is a stance involving the swordsman hiding the length of one's own blade behind their body, only exposing the pommel to the opponent. This stance was common when there was no standard length of sword and was often used as a deterrent to any opponents who did not know the range of the sword being hidden and could be used as a sort of bluff technique. It also serves to conceal the orientation of the blade to one's opponent, as to give him no hint about your own intention for the next attack. Other Koryū schools may define "Waki-gamae" differently from its current form in Kendo. The Waki (or ''Ouaqui'') is a river in western French Guiana. It is a right tributary of the Tampok ( Maroni basin). It is long. The river has its source as the confluence of the southern Grande Waki which has its source in the Arawa Mountains, and the northern Petite Waki which has its source in the Sommet Tabulaire. Waki was at the heart of a late 19th century gold rush, and the banks of river contain gold mining settlements like Grigel. In the 1970s, the area was completely abandoned. Kenji Waki
is a Japanese professional shogi player ranked 9-dan. He is also currently the senior managing director of the Japan Shogi Association. Early life Waki was born on August 10, 1960, in Osaka, Japan. He learned shogi at a shogi class taught by shogi professional , and in 1975 he was accepted into the Japan Shogi Association's apprentice school under the guidance of Takashima at the rank of 5-kyū. He was promoted to the rank of 1-dan in 1977, and obtained full professional status and the rank of 4-dan in October 1978. Shogi professional Waki became the 48th professional to win 600 official games when he defeated Masahiko Urano on February 3, 2015.
