The Waikamaka River is a river of the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. It is a tributary of the Whakaurekou River, part of the Rangitikei River system. Ruahine Range
The Ruahine Range is the largest of several mountain ranges in the North Island of New Zealand that form a ridge running parallel with the east coast of the island between East Cape and Wellington. The ridge is at its most pronounced from the central North Island down to Wellington, where it comprises the Ruahine, Tararua Range, Tararua and Remutaka Ranges. The Ruahines run northeast–southwest for 110 kilometres from inland Hawke's Bay (region), Hawke's Bay to near Woodville, New Zealand, Woodville. It is separated in the south from the northern end of the Tararua Range by the Manawatu Gorge. Manawatū-Whanganui (; spelled Manawatu-Wanganui prior to 2019) is a region in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand, whose main population centres are the cities of Palmerston North and Whanganui. Taihape
Taihape is in the Rangitikei District of the North Island of New Zealand. It serves a large rural community. State Highway 1, which runs North to South through the centre of the North Island, passes through the town. History and culture Early history The Taihape region was originally inhabited by Māori. These iwi (tribes) still live in the area. The first record of a European to the region is William Colenso's visit in 1845. In 1884, the surveyor's party for the Main Trunk railway line cut a rough track through the district. The town was founded in 1894, when European settlers arrived from Canterbury in the South Island.
