Waihopai River (Marlborough) 's Marlborough Region and is a major tributary of the Wairau River. The river has its source in the Raglan Range of mountains, some northwest of Kaikōura. Waihopai Valley
Waihopai Valley is an area near Blenheim in the Marlborough region of the South Island of New Zealand. The Waihopai River drains the area. The Government Communications Security Bureau operates what it describes as a satellite communications monitoring facility in the Waihopai Valley, which it calls GCSB Waihopai. It has been identified as being a part of ECHELON, the worldwide network of signals interception facilities run by the UKUSA consortium of intelligence agencies. The lower Waihopai, as it runs into the Wairau Valley, has a number of vineyards. From 1925 to 1927 small hydroelectric power station was built in the valley. Waihopai Station
The Waihopai Station is a secure communication facility, located near Blenheim, run by New Zealand's Government Communications Security Bureau. The station started operating in 1989, and collects data that is then shared with New Zealand's allies. In 2021, it was announced that the parts of the station would be deconstructed and removed from the site. Several protests and disputes surrounding its use and the wider implications of the information gathered has gained the facility some local and international notoriety. Invercargill ( , mi, Waihōpai is the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and one of the southernmost cities in the world. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region. The city lies in the heart of the wide expanse of the Southland Plains to the east of the Ōreti or New River some north of Bluff, which is the southernmost town in the South Island. Waihopai is a football club based in Invercargill, New Zealand. The club now serves as a feeder club to the Southland United team. Waihopai was founded in 1950 and plays its home games at Surrey Park. Waihopai was part of the Southern League from 1975 to 1999 and was also a member of the FootballSouth Premier League in 2000, prior to the 2001 creation of the united Southland Spirit FC team. Waihopai reached the quarter-finals of the Chatham Cup in 1964, having qualified as the champion side in the Southland Region. The club has reached the last 32 team stage of the competition on four further occasions, in 1969, 1990, 1995, and 1997. They also have won the Churchill Rosebowl thirteen times for the club in Southland that makes it the furthest in the Chatham Cup.
