Waiheke United AFC is a football club based at Onetangi Sports Park on Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand. The Senior Men's Team currently play in the NRFL Division 1, having won promotion to it in 2017. History Waiheke United is a New Zealand registered charity and an incorporated society that was formed in 1987 when the local junior and senior teams combined to become Waiheke United AFC. Since its inception the dedication of the club's committee members and volunteers, players and parents has seen the club thrive and grow to become one of the largest sports club on Waiheke Island. Teams Waiheke United covers all ages from First Kicks and Fun Football, Junior, youth and Senior men's and women's. The club has one senior Women's team, a senior Men's team, a reserve team, and an over 40's senior social team. NRFL Division 1
The Northern Regional Football League Division One, currently known as Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 for sponsorship reasons, is a semi-professional New Zealand association football league competition. The league includes football clubs located in the northern part of the North Island, with clubs from the Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty provinces. The league sits at step 3 of the New Zealand football pyramid. Current clubs Northern Rovers and West Coast Rangers joined the league following their relegation the season prior from the Northern League. Onehunga-Mangere United were promoted as winners of NRFL Division 2, with Fencibles United also promoted. Waiheke United won the 2021 season and were promoted alongside Takapuna to the Northern League, while Bucklands Beach Bucklands Beach is a suburb east of Auckland's CBD in New Zealand. 2022 New Zealand National League
The 2022 New Zealand Men's National League is the second scheduled season of the National League since its restructuring in 2021; the 2021 National League was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in northern regions. 32 clubs compete in the competition, with four qualifying from the Northern League, three qualifying from the Central League and two qualifying from the Southern League for the National Championship phase. Each team can field a maximum of four foreign players as well as one additional foreign player who has Oceania Football Confederation nationality. Each team must also have at least two players aged 20 or under in the starting eleven. This season the Wellington Phoenix Reserves replaced Lower Hutt City and was allowed to play in the Central League though they still have an automatic entry into the Championship phase.
