Roger Charles Carolin
Roger Charles Carolin (born 1929) is a botanist, pteridologist and formerly an associate professor at Sydney University. He was appointed as a lecturer in botany at the University of Sydney in 1955 earned a Ph.D from Sydney University in 1962 with a thesis on the floral morphology of the campanales,Carolin, R.C. (1962The floral morphology of the campanales sens.Ph.D. thesis, University of Sydney. Retrieved 11 May 2019. and retired as an associate professor in 1989. Much of his research focussed on the Campanulales, in the particular the families, Brunoniaceae and Goodeniaceae. The family Campanulaceae (also bellflower family), of the order Asterales, contains nearly 2400 species in 84 genera of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and rarely small trees, often with milky sap. Among them are several familiar garden plants belonging to the genera '' Campanula'' (bellflower), ''Lobelia'', and ''Platycodon'' (balloonflower). ''Campanula rapunculus'' (rampion or r. bellflower) and ''Codonopsis lanceolata'' are eaten as vegetables.
