Its seat is the town of Tłuszcz, which lies approximately north-east of Wołomin and north-east of Warsaw. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 18,510 (out of which the population of Tłuszcz amounts to 7,283, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 11,227).
