Wagah Town
Wagah ( ur, ) or Wagha (Shahmukhi pnb, ) is a village and Union councils of Pakistan, union council (UC 181) located in the Wahga Zone near Lahore, Lahore City District, Pakistan. The town is famous for the Wagah border ceremony and also serves as a goods transit terminal and a Wagah railway station, railway station between Pakistan and India. Wahga is situated west of the border and lies on the historic Grand Trunk Road between Lahore and Amritsar in India. The border is located from Lahore and from Amritsar. It is also from the bordering village of Attari, Attari, India. The Wagah ceremony takes place every evening. The union councils of Pakistan ( ur, ), referred to as village councils in villages, are an elected local government body consisting of 21 councillors, and headed by a Nazim which is equivalent to a mayor or chairperson and a Naib Nazib (vice chairperson). As of 2007, there are 5,375 rural union councils across 115 districts. They form the third-tier of local government and fifth tier overall. Its structure and responsibilities differ between provinces and territories.
