The Waco Wizards were an American ice hockey team in Waco, Texas. They played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1996 to 2000. They played their home games in the Heart of Texas Coliseum. Waco, Texas
Waco ( ) is the county seat of McLennan County, Texas, United States. It is situated along the Brazos River and I-35, halfway between Dallas and Austin. The city had a 2020 population of 138,486, making it the 22nd-most populous city in the state. The 2021 U.S. Census population estimate for the city was 139,594. The Waco metropolitan statistical area consists of McLennan and Falls counties, which had a 2010 population of 234,906. Falls County was added to the Waco MSA in 2013. Western Professional Hockey League
The Western Professional Hockey League (abbreviated WPHL) is a defunct minor professional ice hockey league. The WPHL operated from 1996 to 2001 with teams based in the southern United States, primarily Texas and Louisiana. The league started with six teams in the 1996–97 season and grew to 18 teams in 1999–00. After the 2000–01 season, the WPHL merged with the Central Hockey League. Heart Of Texas Coliseum
The Heart O' Texas Fair Complex, now known as the Extraco Events Center, is located in Waco, Texas. It was once the prime basketball facility for Baylor University. The H.O.T Coliseum was constructed after McLennan County voters authorized a bond issue of $1.2 million in the early 1950s. Despite public criticism that might be directed toward the board and individual members, it was the board's unanimous decision to build portions of the entire plant that the available money would permit. The last of five contracts was signed on January 9, 1952, and construction of the Coliseum began soon afterward. The Coliseum, livestock barn, ticket booths and several small buildings were constructed, paving was done and fencing enclosed the grounds. In the spring of 1953, the Coliseum was completed, and on April 11, the formal opening was held. The San Angelo Outlaws are a defunct American minor professional ice hockey team that played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1997 to 2001 and the Central Hockey League in the 2001–02 season. Tony Cimellaro
Tony Cimellaro (born June 14, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played two games in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators during the 1992–93 NHL season. Playing career Cimellaro also played in various European leagues, beginning in 1993 with a spell in Serie A with Asiago followed by a season in the British National League for the Durham Wasps and the Blackburn Hawks. He then moved to Denmark to play in the Oddset Ligaen for Vojens IK followed by two seasons in Germany, playing for the Ratingen Löwen in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga and Adendorfer EC of the German 1. Liga Nord before returning to North America. Cimellaro spent two seasons in the Western Professional Hockey League with the Waco Wizards as a player/coach before finishing his career in the United Hockey League with the Adirondack IceHawks after the WPHL folded.
