WZON (AM)
WZON (620 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting an oldies format, with one afternoon talk show. The station is licensed to Bangor and serves Central Maine. Along with sister stations 100.3 WKIT and 103.1 WZLO, WZON is owned by The Zone Corporation, the broadcast company owned by authors Tabitha King and her husband, best-selling horror writer Stephen King. WZON operates at 5,000 watts, using a non-directional transmitter by day and a directional pattern at night to protect other stations on 620 kHz. It is one of Maine's oldest radio stations, first signing on the air in 1926. WZON's competitor is cross-town rival WGUY in Veazie. Programming WZON primarily broadcasts an oldies format, but airs a local afternoon talk show. Bangor ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Maine and the county seat of Penobscot County. The city proper has a population of 31,753, making it the state's 3rd-largest settlement, behind Portland (68,408) and Lewiston (37,121). Modern Bangor was established in the mid-19th century with the lumber and shipbuilding industries. NBC Red Network
The National Broadcasting Company's NBC Radio Network (known as the NBC Red Network prior to 1942) was an American commercial radio network which was in operation from 1926 through 2004. Along with the NBC Blue Network it was one of the first two nationwide networks established in the United States. Its major competitors were the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), founded in 1927, and the Mutual Broadcasting System, founded in 1934. In 1942, NBC was required to divest one of its national networks, so it sold NBC Blue, which was soon renamed the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Dover-Foxcroft is the largest town in and the seat of Piscataquis County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,422 at the 2020 census. WABI-TV (channel 5) is a television station in Bangor, Maine, United States, affiliated with CBS and The CW Plus. Owned by Gray Television, the station has studios on Hildreth Street in West Bangor, and its transmitter is atop Peaked Mountain in Dixmont. Prior to 2017, WABI-TV was the flagship station of its founding owner Diversified Communications, which was owned by the Hildreth family of Bangor.
