WXOK (1460 AM, "Heaven 1460 and 95.7") is a Black gospel formatted radio station licensed to Port Allen, Louisiana (where the transmitter is located). The Cumulus Media station broadcasts with a transmitter power of 4,700 watts day and 290 watts night. Its studios are located in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. History 1460 AM was first occupied by WAFB, which signed on in 1948 and was a MBS and ABC affiliate and sister station to WAFB-FM, which was on the 104.3 frequency, and WAFB-TV. Port Allen is a city in, and the parish seat of, West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, it is bordered by Interstate 10 and US Highway 190. The population was 5,180 at the 2010 census, down from 5,278 in 2000. Melvin Lee "Kip" Holden (born August 12, 1952), is an American politician who served from 2005 to 2016 as the Democratic Mayor-President of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. The parish includes the state capital of Baton Rouge and smaller suburban cities such as Baker, Central City, and Zachary. He was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate in the November 21, 2015 race for lieutenant governor. Victory went to the Republican Billy Nungesser. He vacated his position as Mayor-President at the end of 2016 and was succeeded by Sharon Weston Broome, another member of the Democratic Party. Isiah Carey (born October 17, 1970) is an American television broadcast journalist and reporter who has worked for television and radio stations throughout the southeast portion of the United States. Early life and education Carey was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended McKinley Senior High School. After graduating from high school, Carey entered the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to study mass communications. In 1989, he enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge and before graduation he worked as one of the city's youngest radio news anchor and reporters for WXOK radio in Baton Rouge. KBRH (1260 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic rhythm and blues format in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. The station is owned by the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and run by students at Baton Rouge Magnet High School alongside WBRH (90.3 FM). Baton Rouge High has owned and operated this station since 1993, when it returned to the air after a silence of several years and the killing of its owner, who had been working to put it back into service following a bankruptcy. The station's studios are located on Howard Avenue in the city's Central Business District, and its transmitter is located on East Josephine Street in Chalmette.
