Mannington is a city in Marion County, West Virginia, United States, located in the hills of North-Central West Virginia. In its earliest years it was called Forks of Buffalo or Koon Town, but has been called Mannington since 1856. The population was 1,961 at the 2020 census. WGYE is a Country music, Country formatted Broadcasting, broadcast radio station licensed to Mannington, West Virginia, serving North-Central West Virginia. WGYE is owned and operated by Burbach Broadcasting Company. History This radio station first began as WTUS, and was assigned these call letters on October 31, 1989, more than a year after the construction permit was first granted in May 1988. However, the permit was sold to Joseph Donald Powers and partner Al Sergi in 1991 for $23,000. Powers and Sergi finally brought the station on the air in the fall of 1992, with the moniker "Today's U.S. Country", maintaining studios and offices along Locust Avenue in neighboring Fairmont, West Virginia, Fairmont, where the station remains today. Flatwoods, West Virginia
Flatwoods is a town in Braxton County, West Virginia, United States, located approximately one mile from exit 67 of Interstate 79. The population of Flatwoods was 264 as of the 2020 census. History Although first incorporated in 1902, maps show the existence of Flatwoods as a town in 1873, and a church was established by a pastor named John Clark at the community there as early as 1830. The West Virginia and Pittsburgh Railroad extended a branch through Flatwoods in the late 1800s. Later, the line was taken over by Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and Flatwoods was a halfway point on the B&O Railroad's Clarksburg-Richwood branch, approximately 62.6 miles from the Clarksburg terminal, and 59.1 miles from the Richwood terminal. Greeneville is a town in and the county seat of Greene County, Tennessee, United States. The population as of the 2020 census was 15,479. The town was named in honor of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, and it is the second oldest town in Tennessee.
