WVLT-TV
WVLT-TV (channel 8) is a television station in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, affiliated with CBS and MyNetworkTV. It is owned by Gray Television alongside Crossville-licensed CW affiliate WBXX-TV (channel 20). Both stations share studios on Papermill Drive (near I-40/I-75) on the west side of Knoxville, while WVLT-TV's transmitter is located on Sharp's Ridge in North Knoxville. WVLT-TV traces its history to Knoxville's second-oldest television station, which signed on in 1953 as WTSK-TV and changed its call letters to WTVK two years later. As an ultra high frequency (UHF) station, it spent most of its first three decades on the air as an also-ran against two very high frequency (VHF) competitors. WBXX-TV (channel 20) is a television station licensed to Crossville, Tennessee, United States, serving the Knoxville area as an affiliate of The CW. It is owned by Gray Television alongside dual CBS/MyNetworkTV affiliate WVLT-TV (channel 8). Both stations share studios on Papermill Drive (near I-40/I-75) on the west side of Knoxville, while WBXX-TV's transmitter is located at Windrock, Buffalo Mountain outside Oliver Springs, Tennessee. WBXX-TV is the only full-powered Knoxville-market station to be licensed in a city in the Central Time Zone; Cumberland County (where Crossville is located) and Fentress County are the only two counties in the market that observe Central Time, while Knoxville proper is in Eastern Time. Sharp's Ridge is a steep ridge in Knoxville, Tennessee, north of the city's downtown. A area of the ridge is maintained as Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park, a city park dedicated to the honor of the area's war veterans. WATE-TV (channel 6) is a television station in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, affiliated with American Broadcasting Company, ABC and owned by Nexstar Media Group. Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. WKGN
WKGN is an AM radio station licensed to Knoxville, Tennessee. It was founded by Clarence Beaman, Jr. It first signed on the air September 28, 1947. After various format changes, including a Spanish format, WKGN became an all sports station. In September 2015 WKGN became affiliated with Fox Sports Radio and has both local and national sports talk shows. WKGN has switched formats many times throughout its existence.
