WVKF (95.7 FM, "Kiss 95.7") is a radio station broadcasting a contemporary hit radio format. Licensed to Shadyside, Ohio, United States, the station serves the Wheeling, West Virginia, area. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. History WVKF began its life on 105.5 as "The Zone" in 2000 under the calls of WZNW, with a similar format but without the hip-hop music that had become dominate once the banner was changed to "Kiss-FM". Once Clear Channel took over the station, its format shifted to play, in addition to the current format, the R&B and hip-hop tracks. WWVA (1170 kHz, NewsRadio 1170) is an American AM radio station that broadcasts with studios in Wheeling, West Virginia. Its towers are located in St. Clairsville, Ohio. It is West Virginia's only class A 50,000–watt clear-channel station, sharing the frequency's Class A status with KTSB in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and KJNP in North Pole, Alaska. WWVA can be heard in most of the eastern two-thirds of the United States at night, as well as most of Canada. Shadyside is a village in eastern Belmont County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 3,454 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Wheeling metropolitan area. History Shadyside had its start in 1879 when the railroad was extended to that point. The town site was platted in 1901. The village was named after a local tree-lined farm. On the evening of June 14, 1990, three to six inches (76 mm) of rain fell in less than two hours, in the ridges to the west, creating a flash flood in the Shadyside area which caused twenty-six fatalities and destroyed or damaged many buildings.
